Tips to Help Your Heater This Winter

Winter is here and we know you’re feeling the cool temperatures outdoors. One of the best things about winter is coming back to a cozy home. You’re probably doing your all to make your living space warm and inviting after a cold day outdoors. If you want to make sure you can make it through this winter without incident, there are a few things you can do to improve your home.

We’re an HVAC company in Weatherford, TX that can perform the services you’re looking for. If you’re ready to get a head start on the winter weather, then we can help you with these home heating tips.

Try Out These Tips This Winter

Here are a few tips you can try this winter to make your home as warm as possible.

Choose a Reasonable Thermostat Temperature

The first thing you’re going to want to do is to choose a reasonable thermostat setting for your home. We recommend something around 68°F. This might sound too low to you. We want to assure you that this temperature is typically all you need, especially if you put on an extra layer of clothing. It’s easy to come home and think that your internal temperature should be cranked up to the highest setting possible, but this isn’t the case. A range of temperatures around 68°F to 72°F can typically do the trick, save you money, and ease the load on your heating system.

Upgrade Your Thermostat

If you’re choosing reasonable thermostat temperatures, but you still aren’t feeling enough warmth, then you might want to upgrade to a new thermostat. We recommend smart and Wi-Fi thermostats because they’re intuitive, convenient, and can help you save money. Even upgrading to a basic programmable digital thermostat is an improvement if you currently have an old manual thermostat.

Have Your Ceiling Fan Help

Your ceiling fan isn’t only for the summer: it can help you during the winter as well. Locate the switch at the base of the ceiling fan and flip it so the fan blades rotate in the opposite direction (clockwise if you’re looking at the blades from below). The fan turning backward helps to redistribute the warm air in your home that naturally rises to the ceiling.

Use Natural Lighting to Your Advantage

Make sure that you open up your blinds or curtains during the height of the day to let in natural light. The radiant heat from natural lighting will increase the temperature of your house. Every degree helps during the coldest times of the winter season.

Make Sure Your Furniture Isn’t Making Things Harder

Your home’s furniture should help your heating rather than hurt it. If you have large pieces of furniture anywhere in front of your home’s vents, then they’re probably hurting the amount of heat you’re getting. Make sure your vents are all clear so you receive the full amount of heat from your HVAC system. Your home will heat up much faster and with more ease.
