Why You’re Still Hot With an Air Conditioner

An air conditioner typically works fairly efficiently and quickly to cool down a home if it is in good working order. Sometimes, you may not feel like that’s happening. You may experience areas of the home that just feel hot, or you are uncomfortable in the middle of the night. That’s frustrating especially if your energy bills are going up in the process. If that’s happening to you, it may be time to seek our AC repair in Saginaw, TX.

Why Are You Still So Hot?

There may be a few reasons why you’re still struggling with temperature control. When working properly, your air conditioner should cool the home and remove excess moisture from the area, creating a comfortable climate. Consider what may not be right.

Your thermostat isn’t working properly

Sometimes the problem is with the thermostat. If it’s not working consistently or not set to the right temperature, that can create difficult conditions. Some are programmable, which allows you to set them at different levels throughout the day. You may be more comfortable with a cooler temp at night, for example.

The filter is clogged

Your air conditioner may be struggling to keep up with temperature control if the filter is clogged. When it has excessive debris and dust in it, the air can’t move through it easily. That often leads to inefficient air conditioning. Over time, it may even cause problems for the function of your system, leading to larger repairs.

It’s the wrong size

If your air conditioner is too small for your home, it may be unable to keep up with your demand. Older models didn’t cool efficiently nor to the level of comfort that many people seek today. You may feel that, easily, when you are in one area of the home, and it feels okay but another area does not. It may be time to replace your unit.

Frozen AC evaporator coil

The evaporator coil works to remove heat and humidity from the air within the home. In some situations, it may malfunction, often due to being clogged with dust and debris. This may also occur due to a lack of refrigerant in the air conditioner. You may notice this happening if there seems to be a layer of frost on the outside of the coil.

Your home is working against you

Is your home airtight? Are there numerous drafts throughout it? It could be that your air ducts are no longer airtight, either. The more gaps and areas for cool air to get out of the home, the less comfortable it’s going to feel (and the more your AC has to work to try to meet your demand). Having a technician inspect these areas may reveal some repairs your home needs to improve efficiency.

If you’re struggling with air conditioner problems, don’t put off repairs any longer. It could lead to worsening problems and higher costs. We can handle your problems. Get in touch as soon as possible to schedule an appointment.
