Heating, Air Conditioning, and Indoor Air Quality Services in Springtown, TX.

Welcome to Springtown, Texas! In 1859, Captain Joseph Ward, originally from Patterson, New Jersey, arrived in the area known as Walnut Creek. He was immediately captivated by the land’s natural beauty, which featured rolling hills adorned with oak and elm trees and an abundance of wildlife, including bears, panthers, deer, wolves, quail, and wild turkeys. Notably, 25 natural cold springs flowed from the base of a nearby hillside. Inspired by the land’s potential, Ward established a townsite that he initially named Littleton Springs.

Despite facing environmental hardships, Comanche raids, and the disruptions caused by the Civil War, the settlement managed to endure. Eventually renamed Springtown, the town began to grow steadily. By 1877, Springtown boasted a school, a hotel, two general stores, two blacksmith shops, and three cotton gins. The community was officially incorporated in 1884.

In 1884, Springtown further solidified its role as a regional center for learning with the founding of the College Hill Institute and the Springtown Male and Female Institute. These institutions quickly established the town as the educational hub of Northwest Texas. As the public education system expanded in the early 20th century, the number of students attending private schools declined. The Springtown Male and Female Institute building was converted into a public school, while the College Hill Institute building was moved to the town square using mule teams and log rollers, where it served as the City Hall.

The Springtown Tabernacle

An open-air meeting space, known as the "Tabernacle," was later added to the building to accommodate the numerous religious revivals and public gatherings that took place there. During the Great Depression in 1936, the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) removed the original City Hall and Tabernacle structures, constructing the current Tabernacle building that still stands today.

Built from stone and wood, it became a central gathering space for the community. A stone and rail fence was installed to keep horses and wagons at a respectful distance, and a well located on the north side of the building provided cool, clean water. Over the years, the Tabernacle has served as a venue for weddings, worship services, political events, graduation ceremonies, funerals, and a wide range of community celebrations.

The Springtown High School mascot is the Porcupine. The nickname "Porcupine" was reportedly given to the Springtown basketball team in the 1920s. The term "POJO," which stands for "Power of Jesus Overcomes," has also become a significant part of Springtown’s sports culture. This term was coined in 1983 by new head football coach Lucky Gamble and players, with the "P" referencing the porcupine.
