Boyd

Welcome to Boyd, Texas! Boyd is located on State Highway 114, seven miles south of Decatur in southern Wise County.

In the early 1890s, farmers settled in the area, which lies in a curve of the North Fork of the Trinity River. The community was initially known as Greasy Bend because the region was used to fatten hogs. However, after the Rock Island line reached the town in 1893, the settlement was renamed Parkhurst in honor of a railroad official. 

A post office branch was established in the community in September 1893. Later, railroad officials raised concerns that Parkhurst might be confused with Park Springs, a nearby town. As a result, the citizens of Parkhurst chose the name Boyd in honor of H. S. Boyd, another railroad executive.

Boyd was incorporated in 1895 and quickly became a retail center for local farmers. Until the 1940s, cotton and livestock were the primary agricultural products in the area. Afterward, Boyd emerged as a center for melons. 

In the late 1950s, the town began serving as a bedroom community for residents who worked in Fort Worth. 

Boyd is home to two well-known restaurants: Sam’s BBQ and Go Go Gumbo. 

The mascot for Boyd Independent School District (ISD) is the Yellowjacket.
